Hey Ocean! is another great Canadian band that I wanted to highlight for you this year. I swear I don't know where most of the bands are from when I decide to highlight them, all of them are chosen based on listening to their music. It just so happens that this year Canadian bands kick ass just like last year Scandinavian bands kicked ass.
Hey Ocean! plays my favorite genre of indie, which is jangly-indie-pop. They fold various styles into one beautiful piece of pop magic that will work its way into your cold, dead heart. Their latest release is entitled, Is. From what I can tell it was funded by a Kickstarter campaign, which is especially interesting to me because they seem to be signed to Universal Records Canada. I don't really know what that means but I know they have a big-time manager, a big-time record label and an indie sound so, good for them and good for us.
